First weeks in pictures

- I have finally settled down on Monday, but these have just been the craziest days of my life, so...I still don't have too many words to describe all that happened. I will probably do it, or probably not...anyway: I hope you'll enjoy a few images from my trip and first couple of weeks (gosh, time runs fast!) in the Big Apple. Hopefully I'm getting back to blogging with the usual frequency soon...I really miss it and I miss reading your blogs too!

Live from NYC

- I've arrived! I'm OK, just always in a rush! I'm fighting jet-lag, trying to find a room by tomorrow (mission:impossible) and trying to learn how to get around the city without getting lost in the subway :P

I'll tell you all in detail as soon as I settle down! (the hotel here is just amazing, but sadly I'm leaving it tomorrow!)

On leaving this side of the ocean

- I'm leaving for NYC tomorrow, have my plane to Paris at 7 a.m. (which means a veeery early wake up), then the one to New York around lunchtime and then I'll still have a long day ahead of me. Can't help being both excited and...sad. I've never felt this attached to home and I've never wished I was just leaving for the UK and be with A. as much as I'm doing now. Every little object I see around me feels incredibly important and part of my story in this moment of leaving and this feeling is killing me. Suitcases are pretty much ready (I have so much stuff, but...whatever...) and there's nothing left to do, just say goodbye.

- My friend Davide won't be able to come with me as we had planned :( so I also had to cancel the reservation for the hostel and kindly asked shelter to a couple of colleagues.

**EDIT** I booked myself into a "boutique hotel" in Midtown Manhattan because I wanted to make sure I was gonna have a roof on my head...this makes me feel better already! :)

- I'll take a ton of pictures and keep you updated about my first days, especially about the search for the room...Got 4 appointments on Friday (first one is at 9 a.m., if jeg-lag doesn't kill me!), so wish me luck!!

Melancholic ballerina

- My working days at the medical course in Bologna have been busy, but nice as well. I had already been working with the Mammography Education team and we ended up talking a lot, eating way too much and generally having fun together. Plus, my boss Lisa is from the US and we exchanged infos and knowledge about our respective countries, so I discovered a few things that might come in handy once I'm there..! She and her friend Laura left me their contacts and told me to get in touch in case I'm in trouble...Hopefully I'll be fine (just have to "watch yourself" - they said!) but it's nice to know, just in case :)

First night, going out for dinner. Please, note how my outifit seemed to be coordinated with the carpet in the hotel..! :D

With my super-fun Italian colleague Irene

Last day, with the boss-es: mission accomplished!

We also had a crazy night-in (not out! :D ), but I didn't have my camera with me, so I'll have to wait for Laura to send me some of the pictures that she took! They're worth the wait... :P

- On my last day of work I abandoned my simple and professional skinnies & shirt look of the previous days and decided for something cuter. I really felt like a modern day ballerina in this H&M black dress, black vintage Enrico Coveri belt from granma, striped blazer from Topshop, a very old purple scarf and black ballerinas (duh!) from Primark. I'm feeling like wearing purple-ish stuff lately...dunno why!

- When I got back home I was feeling alone; after days full of people and timetables and things to do, finding myself at home just with the suitcases in front of me and piles and piles of clothes was...terrible. I'm still very much melancholic and I can't really speak about my imminent travel because I get too emotional. I even cried a bit a couple of times...Well, yeah, let's not talk about this. Leaving your family and home for 3 months can be exciting, but carries some sadness too.

Wish I was here right now... :(

- I'm still looking for a room in NYC (I'm becoming repetitive, I know) and I'm actually slightly frustrated right now. I do have a couple of contacts, but those I liked the most either disappeared or were rented out already, so...I'm in that typical super-stressed mood that comes up before leaving (only 2 days to go!). I'm sure everything will be great once I'll sort this damn thing out..!! ;)

domenica 13 settembre 2009

Leaving it ain't easy...

- I've not forgotten about you, it's just that it's been a few crazy days: working in Bologna and then coming back and having started all the packing...it's driving me insane. I can't believe how quick days are passing...and I can't believe I won't be home anymore for a long time in just 3 days. Gosh, I can't even think of it now :(

In my hotel room...The <3 is for A. :)

I'll be back with more pictures and stories in the next couple of days before I leave, I promise. Love you guys! :)

Baby 81

- I went around town with my mum he other day and did a bit of shopping, but nothing excessive as I'm keeping in mind that I'll be in NYC in just 10 days..! It was a nice day and I wanted to wear something that was somewhere in between gothic/grunge/back to school so I opted for this simple black dress from H&M, lilac emroidered shirt from American Eagle (thrifted), lace socks from Primark, black lace-up shoes from a shop in Tuscany and black Balenciaga Le Dix Motorcycle handbag courtesy of my mum! About the bag, she said she's bored with it, so I can have it if I want, but it's quite small for my standards so...we'll see ;)

All pictures were taken by my mum :)

- The search for a house in NYC goes on and it's getting more and more depressing actually. I've sent around 150 replies to ads posted on Craiglist and also posted a "wanted" ad myself getting quite a few answers, but the problem is loads of those are just scams..! :( This time it's gonna be difficult...

- I'm really tired these days, dunno if it's because of how anxious I am about leaving and everything or if it's just plain tiredness as I tend to wake up early or if it's because I keep on changing climate conditions: from very hot at the seaside to very cold in Edinburgh and back to very warm here in Italy...Anyway, I probably just need to go and have some sleep!

From cold to hot in a week...

- I'm off to Bologna to work as assistant organizer/secretary at a medical course tomorrow morning and will be staying there until Thursday. I'll keep you updated and hopefully will also be able to snap a few outfit pictures while I'm there...that's if I can persuade my dad! :P Speak to you later girls!

venerdì 4 settembre 2009

There's a place

- I thought I was not gonna talk about this, so I'll just make a quick note: on August 29th Noel announced that he was leaving Oasis for good. I wouldn't believe it at first, but apparently...well, it is true and it's really sad too. I've never seen them playing better than this past summer and they have not released an album as good as Dig Out Your Soul in the past 10 years probably, so it's even worse that it happened at this point in their career.

As for me, I'll always be the girl with the Oasis tattoo, so - in the end - they'll still live forever for me and doesn't make much difference to my heart and memories...

Wearing black tunic from H&M, long black cardi from Primark, vinyl leggings from American Apparel and black ballerinas from Primark

- Getting back to "real", everyday life...I left Edinburgh on Tuesday morning with a lot of melancholy and am seriously attempting to convince myself that it's OK, whatever time it's gonna be, it'll be OK. And it will be, I know, but...have to remind myself every now and then :)

Hello, I love you too...

- Good thing is we did get a new flat before I left (actually right the night before!) and it's actually a very nice, very "Brit" flat with the most perfect red walls in the living room and a picture of Audrey Hepburn (really not my favourite actress or style icon, but I guess it's still a nice touch, isn't it? :P ). Our new flatmate (well, A.'s new flatmate) is a German guy whom A. wil be meeting for the first time tonight and I'll be probably be meeting at Christmas time! Let's hope he's as nice in person as he sounded on skype.

I'm gonna post better pics once A. will actually move in!

- The day before I left we had some...erm...fun ;P in one of the rooms that were currently empty in our (ex-)flat and did a bit of a crazy shooting on the bed. I was wearing a blue and white folk shirt from H&M, cream & red cardi also from H&M, rolled up grey skinny jeans from Primark and black lace-up shoes from a shop in Tuscany.

I'm gonna miss taking pictures with my one and only official photographer... <3

- First thing I did once I got back in Italy was to find an accomodation for my first days in NYC. So yesterday me and Davide, the friend who's coming with me (he's going on holiday for 10 days, so he booked the same flight as me and we can share a room too and save a few bucks - hey, I'm really getting into this "speak as an American" thing!) decided on a very chep and potentially very cockroach-y YMCA hostel on the Upper West Side, right on Central Park. At least location sounds good..! ;P

sabato 29 agosto 2009

It's a long way...

- Hi girls, I'm a complete disaster in these days...I've totally abandoned my blog, didn't tell you about the holidays as promised before and am currently spending all day hunting for a new flat in Edin with A. When we arrived on Monday, in fact, we discovered that the landlord had just decided to put a new bathroom in and re-decorate the house, with the result that we had no basin, no shower (!) and only a half-functioning loo. I'll just tell you that the smell of paint was SO bad that we checked into an hotel on Tuesday..!

With some very necessary stuff on flight...

Then, on Wednesday morning we decided to go back home (too stressful and especially too expensive to spend a week in an hotel..!) and we've been dealing with the situation the best we could. Yesterday evening the shower was eventually re-installed, though, so I'm a happy girl again :P

- As for the new flat...we've seen 12 until now and only ONE we liked. We're gonna see the last one later on today and then we're gonna make a decision. Let's just say that, after this week, not only I'm more and more worried about what hunting for an apartment (need to get used to American words :P) will be like in NYC...but also I had a very strong feeling that I wished I was looking for a flat somewhere in Italy, possibly in sunny Rome..!

During a pause, drinking a pomegranate-peach fruit blend from Starbucks: definitely not one of their best recipes...

- No need to say we went from litterally not being able to lie in bed because of how hot it was (like the night before our flight), to a freezing cold weather up here. Quite trumatic acqually...I didn't remember how unbelievably cold Augusts can be..! :/ On Thursday I took the chance to debute my new black lace-up shoes mum got me in a little shop in Tuscany, pairing them with a grey cotton cardi from Topman, dark denim skinny jeans from Primark, random old black tee from the boyf's drawer and an "animal print" scarf from H&M.

- We went to Glasgow yesterday and I sported the first thing I bought the other day: a pair of floral hotpants from Moto @ Topshop..!

I know, I'm complaining about the cold and we're heading towards even colder months and I buy another pair of hotpants...but I thought the pattern was perfect and loved it so much I could not resist. Plus, they're so comfy with a pair of leggings that I'm gonna be wearing them all the time! Here I've completed the look with a classic light blue shirt from Ralph Lauren, a long navy cardi from H&M and black Converse All Star.

- I was hoping to go to the monthly "Madchester" tonight, but I'm not too sure we're actually willing to spend a night out in the crowd since in three days time I'll be leaving and won't be seeing A. for who knows how long. Anyway, I got this picture taken the other day to testify that I'll always be a Madchester girl, even if I won't be there singing and dancing... ;P

- I'll let you know about the new flat...
Shudder..!!

domenica 23 agosto 2009

Hot hot heat

- I got home yesterday in the late afternoon and am leaving for Edin tomorrow morning, so between doing the laundry, unpacking and re-packing I just had the time to download some pictures from these past days and put them up here. I will comment on them and tell you the whole story behind later on tomorrow; in the meantime...enjoy the pictures! ;)

- Also, I'd like to thank the lovely lady at Superfluamente for interviewing me for her "50 questions" series. It was hard to answer them all, but fun! If you are Italian or know Italian, then you can read it here :)

It's good to be back

I'm back!!
And I have a TON of pictures to show you, so stay tuned! ;)

mercoledì 12 agosto 2009

- We went out for dinner with a couple of friends on Saturday and I had a few different outfits in mind; I liked them a lot, but then I decided to change and "remix" this oh-so-'90s Gap shirt I had already worn the past weekend. This time I paired it with black shorts from H&M, black patent skinny belt from Primark, white jazz shoes from Asos.com and a sweet little blue crystal butterfly pendant from New Look.

- On a side note, the outfit I shot in Udine the other day was quite successfull and appeared on the front page of Weardrobe.com the same day I uploaded it on the site. No need to say how chuffed I was about it..!! :)

- I'm going to be at my parents' in Tuscany for about 10 days and - as I said before - I don't have an internet connection there. A. is gonna stay at his home instead and I'm gonna miss him a lot :( I'm gonna miss my little blog (and yours!) a lot too..! I'll keep taking pictures of outifts and places though, so I can update you later on.
See you all on Aug 20th (more or less) when I'll be back in the city :)
